TCU’s restaurant strip on South University Drive is small but there’s a variety that includes everything from sandwiches and pizza to Asian fusion and burgers.
Dutch’s Burrito Bar and Dutch’s Hamburgers has been offering meals since 2007. Named for beloved football coach Dutch Meyer, the restaurant is known for its burgers.
“When people think burgers, they think Dutch’s,” said owner Kay Greenlee.
The business, which has expanded over the years, is divided into two sides: a build-your-own burrito bar and a classic burger joint.
“We probably are about 75% student-driven,” said Greenlee.
During the school year there are often lunch time lines for both sides. Demand falls off during the summer. Greenlee said they have to be creative to get people in the door during downtime.
Greenlee said for example, they added a crispy chicken sandwich to the menu to help draw in the faculty and staff who remain on campus over the summer and visitors to the area.
“We still get a lot of that business even when TCU is not in session,” Greenlee said.
