Emily, 15, is a rising junior at Avalon School. Her family moved to Avalon when she was 7-years-old from North Richland Hills.
She enjoys reading, drawing, and musicals. She’s made the A honor roll student for two years. Emily is at the top of her class, with the highest grades in five of six courses. She also does student council.
Emily said she wants to learn more about writing during the Schieffer Summer Journalism Camp. Emily has been on her school’s yearbook staff since her freshmen year. She has participated in UIL writing competitions for seven years, writing essays. and crafting paragraphs.
She volunteers weekly at the library, shelving books and straightening aisles. Emily said she wants to major in library sciences to become a librarian or archivist. She is enrolled in Navarro Community College.
“You can’t lead if you’re following in somebody’s footsteps. Branch off the beaten path and make your own,” she said.
